Public buses are frequent and reliable

Krabi is well-connected to other tourist destinations in southern Thailand. The road network is good and the government bus services on the whole are comfortable and reliable so this is a good, cheap way to travel around.

The bus station is located in Krabi Town, around  four kilometres out of the centre in Talaat Kao (market). The local bus from Ao Nang will drop you there, as will many buses from the centre of Krabi. There is rarely any need to book tickets in advance other than around long weekends (with a public holiday on Monday or Friday), when buses can get busy.

There are buses/ferry combo journeys that are organised in the busy season, departing about 08:30 or 16:00 (for the overnight ferry).

Local travel agents can arrange this for you; it usually involves a guesthouse pickup by minivan about 08:00, lots of sitting around, coloured stickers to indicate your final destination, a lunch stop in Surat Thani, transfer to the pier, more sitting around, and a ferry that may stop in Samui. Doing the journey yourself stops you feeling like cattle, but any time/price saving is minimal.
