Guest houses in Krabi - bungalows & guesthouses Ao Nang

Ton Sai beach has some budget options
Ton Sai beach has some budget options

Most of the beachside accomodation in Krabi is upmarket, with the guesthouses packed into Krabi town which is a 20 minute drive to Ao Nang. But there are some options, and Ton Sai beach which is adjacent to Railay has some budget options on the beach - but they book up quickly.

Ao Nang is the main resort area, and you can find something for under 300 baht further up the road, about five minutes walk from the beach. You’ll be in among the action and more likely to find something affordable than in Phuket’s popular areas.

Here are some recommended guesthouses in Krabi.

Krabi Town guesthouses
Not quite at the beach, but close enough if you’re really on a budget. It has the true atmosphere of a Southern Thailand town without all the tourists.

Riverview Guesthouse
A small, simple but central place right on the waterfront. The rooms are basic and cheap, but you hear every noisy longtail boat go by. However it has a pleasant patio overlooking the estaury which others don’t. 150 baht fan room, Khongkha road, +66 (0)7 561 2536.

Chan Cha Lay Guesthouse
Modern, new and clean, this place is organised, with internet café and travellers’ services, likely to be full in high season with 15 rooms. 250 baht fan room, 55 Utarakit road, +66 (0)7 562 0952.

Chao Fa Valley Guesthouse
This one has a nice atmosphere, with comfortable bungalows surrounding a garden, they’re generally clean and not too small. Bit more expensive than the rest but worth it. 300 - 400 baht fan room, Jao Fah road, +66 (0)7 561 2499.

A Mansion Guesthouse
A bit more upmarket with very nice rooms including TV, it’s a good all round deal with nice restaurant and bar, laundry service and friendly staff. 300 - 700 baht fan/air-con room, 12/6 Jao Fah road, +66 (0)7 563 0511.

Ao Nang Guesthouses
This is the main resort area of Krabi, with a beach and longtail boats to the offshore islands. It has plenty of tourist facilities.

Ya Ya Ao Nang Bungalows
A jungle experience right near Ao Nang centre, these bamboo bungalows come with their own bathrooms and offer good value but prices are hiked up in the season. 200 - 650 baht, Krabi road, +66 (0)7 563 7176.

Ao Nang Orchid Bungalows
Nice, roomy bungalows with optional air-con, comfortable and nice environment with a small garden, nearer the beach. 300 - 1800 baht fan/air-con rooms (seasonal rates), Krabi road, +66 (0)7 563 7116.

Lavinia Guesthouse
Very close to the beach, though tucked behind a row of shophouses, this is a small but homely sort of place (only 6 rooms), clean and modern. 200 - 1300 baht fan/air-con (seasonal rates), Beach road, +66 (0)7 569 5405.

J Mansion
More like a small hotel but in the budget range with decent rooms that are spacious and clean with TV and private bathrooms, quite central. 400 - 1000 baht fan/air-con (seasonal rates), Beach road, +77 (0) 569 5128.

Ton Sai Beach Bungalows
Ton Sai is reached via a 10 minute longtail boat ride from Ao Nang, it is cut off from the mainland by karst cliffs and has limited facilities, but has the best climbing.

Ton Sai Bungalows
Dozens of simple bamboo bungalows set among the coconut trees, different prices the closer you are to the beach, has a ‘climbers’ atmosphere in the bar and kayaks for rent. 80 - 800 baht (season and location dependent), +66 (0)7 562 2584.

Green Valley Resort
Hardly a resort but a cut above the other budget places with pleasant interiors to the rooms, also right on the beach in a pleasant tropical setting. 400 - 600 baht (seasonal rates), +66 (0)7 562 1665.

Krabi Mountain Resort
More in the hotel price range but affordable considering what you get, nice clean rooms in a great environment and atmospheric bar populated with climbers. 600 - 1400 baht fan/air-con rooms (seasonal rates), +66 (0)7 562 2610.

Note! All these places will book out in the high season. There are no budget options on the popular and space-limited Railay Beach though you can walk between the two at low tide.

Phi Phi Island bungalows
There is much less accomodation avaialble on Phi Phi island since the tsunami and indecision about new development laws have hampered recovery. However it is still possible to show up in the off season and find something cheap on this beautiful island. In the high season you’re better off making a day trip, or booking well in advance. See the accomodation page on our complete Phi Phi island guide.
