Geography of Krabi - maps

Krabi lies southwest of Phuket on the Andaman coast and refers to an entire province, with Krabi town as its administrative centre. The town is pleasant but most tourists head for the popular resort area of Ao Nang, north of the town. Here you'll find good tourist services and a more down-to-earth atmosphere compared to Phuket. It is the launching point for trips to the offshore islands and ferries to Phi Phi (ferries also depart from Krabi town for Phi Phi an Koh Lanta).

On Krabi maps you'll notice the famous Railay peninsula, but what the map doesn't reveal is an impossible bank of karst cliffs that cut these gorgeous beaches off from the rest of the mainland, turning it into a virtual island destination - ideal for a quiet day trip.

A 90 minute ferry ride south of Krabi is Koh Lanta, also shown on our maps of the Krabi area. This is a quieter (though still popular) alternative to Ao Nang. The world famous Phi Phi islands are stuck out in the Andaman sea, reached by an hour-long speed boat ride. Individual maps of Phi Phi and Lanta are supplied here.

Northwest of Krabi on the map is the stunning Pha Nga Bay sandwiched between Phuket and Krabi province, and it provides a photogenic seascape typified by hundreds of karst islands and pillars. Find out essential 'need to know' info on our forum.
