Geography of Krabi - maps

Krabi lies east of Phuket on the Andaman coast and refers to an entire province, with Krabi Town as its administrative centre. The town is pleasant but most tourists head for the popular resort area of Ao Nang, southwest of the town. Here you'll find good tourist services and a more down-to-earth atmosphere compared to Phuket. It is the launching point for trips to the offshore islands of Phi Phi and Koh Lanta.

On Krabi maps you'll notice the famous Railay peninsula, but what the map doesn't reveal is an impossible bank of karst cliffs that cut these gorgeous beaches off from the rest of the mainland, turning it into a virtual island destination - ideal for a quiet day trip.

A 90-minute ferry ride south of Krabi is Koh Lanta, also shown on our maps of the Krabi area. This is a quieter (though still popular) alternative to Ao Nang. The world famous Phi Phi islands are stuck out in the Andaman Sea, reached by an hour-long speed boat ride. Individual maps of Phi Phi and Lanta are supplied here.

Northwest of Krabi on the map is the stunning Phang Nga Bay, sandwiched between Phuket and Krabi province. It provides a photogenic seascape typified by hundreds of karst islands and pillars.

Maps of Krabi are distributed for free at hotels and tourist business, produced by local advertising companies. Krabi Flyer magazine also has a good centrespread map of the Krabi area. On the local islands, such as Koh Lanta and Phi Phi, you will also find useful area maps.
