Sea rescue centre for Krabi

Krabi, Phuket and Phangnga will be among the first island destinations in Phuket to receive the new Andaman sea rescue centres. A total of 18 million THB has been earmarked for the Andaman Sea rescue project, with further sea rescue centres planned for Ranong and Trang.

Krabi is a popular tourist destination, with visitors flocking to its Ao Nang beach, which also offers convenient access to a number of islands and beaches within short distances of Krabi. A sea rescue centre will provide a much-needed fillip to the region’s safety image.

Three speed boats will be part of the equipment deployed at each of the sea rescue centre, and it will also be provided with emergency aid kits for sea recues covering a five kilometre radius.

Since fishermen in the local areas are usually the first group to respond to emergencies in the seas, plans include providing local fishermen with training in rescue operation work. The sea rescue centres will also have trained operations staff.

Authorities hope that the rescue centres like the one planned for Krabi will go a long way in boosting Thailand’s image as a safe and secure holiday destination.
