THE Tourism Authority of Thailand has announced their new strategy is not to increase how many visitors the country receives but to encourage exisiting numbers to spend more cash.
Juthaporn rerngronasa, deputy governor for the tourism authority (TAT), made the annoucement after assuming reposnsibility for leading a new team in the wake of a management reshuffle.
The agency hopes to develop new target markets through local media and online channels and that these new forms of advertising are cheaper than traditional methods.
TAT also mentioned it would be unveiling a new tourism campaign called Amazing Thailand, Amazing Value, which will aim to bring more shoppers to the region. It will also feature up and coming tourist destinations in order to generate interest from repeat visitors.
Meanwhile, The Tourism and Sports Ministry announced last week that it would reach their target goal for 16 million new visitors to the country, which would be an increase of 2 million on 2009.
