Triathlon star trains in Krabi sun

KRABI is proving to be a popular training ground for international athletes.

Other than sailing fans practicing their art in time for the region’s regattas, Switzerland’s Caroline Steffen prepared for this week’s Singapore Aviva Ironman 70.3 competition by training in Krabi.

The proud Swiss star ran with her national flag painted on her nails and trounced the competition in the women’s elite category with a time of 4hours, 18mins and 14secs.

The 31-year-old grew accustomed to the fierce heat and humidity of Southeast Asia by spending a gruelling month training by the Andaman coast.

Iron Man is a popular version of a triathlon race, and involves 1.2 mile swim, 56-mile cycle and 13.1 mile run – adding up to a total of 70.3 miles.

It has been held in Singapore for the past four years and always brings huge crowds to the city-state.
