More flights for Krabi Airport

NO FRILLS carrier Tiger Airways will be increasing its Krabi service as figures show a whopping 50 per cent rise in passenger numbers.

The Singapore-based company carried a record 4.9 million people in the last financial year so industry bosses will increase scheduled departures to the Andaman coast.

And the firm managed to up the proportion of seats filled to 85 per cent, drastically saving on wastage.

Tiger CEO Tony Davis told reporters that the record numbers demonstrate the continued strength of low cost air travel despite a difficult year, with the swine flu pandemic and global financial crisis.

He added that consistent growth in passengers throughout the last 12 months for Tiger provided the airline impetus to expand its low fares model to yet more destinations.

From April 20 Tiger Airways will increase services from Singapore to Hat Yai, Krabi and Phuket. And Darwin and Melbourne in Australia will have extra services from June 18.
