French film fest heading to south Thailand

23 Jan 2012

French film buffs have a delight in store for them next month when La Fête arrives in nearby Phuket. Across Phang Nga Bay from Krabi, the island’s Prince of Songkla University campus is the venue for a five-night extravaganza of the best in French cinema.

French-Thai Cultural Festival organisers and l’Alliance Francaise de Phuket are offering Francophile film aficionados the rare opportunity of seeing five classic productions for free. The films will be screened with their original soundtracks, but offer sub-titles for non-French speakers.

The screenings will take place every evening from 13 to 17 February, with doors opening at 18:30, at the Phuket campus. Four of the offerings are fairly recent productions, but timeless comedy classic Mon Oncle (My Uncle) dates from 1958 and was directed by the illustrious Jacques Tati.

The other four films are Nicolas Bary’s Les Enfants de Timpelbach (The Children of Timpelbach), Cause Toujours directed by Jeanne Labrune, Alexandra Leclère’s Les Souers Fachees and La Tete de Maman (Mother’s Head) which was directed by Carine Tardieu.

This is the second year running that La Fête has provided provincial city dwellers in Thailand with the chance of enjoying French films. As well as Phuket, the La Fête roadshow will hit Koh Samui, Hua Hin, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai and Khon Kaen.

Details of the programme for Phuket and the Andaman Sea region are available at www.lafete-bangkok.com/en/province/phuket/. Http://www.lafete-bangkok.com/en/ provides information about La Fête happenings in Bangkok and other locations in Thailand.
