New Krabi marina stages soft opening

2 Jan 2012

The latest addition to Krabi’s abundant attractions and facilities staged a soft opening last week. Sailing yachts from the local Andaman Sea region of Thailand as well as Malaysia and Singapore descended on the brand new Krabi Boat Lagoon to commemorate its opening.

The new yacht facility is in the Talingchan region of Nuea Khlong, south of central Krabi. Its developers say that the marina’s proximity to the rapidly expanding Krabi International Airport will encourage boaters to use it as an alternative to nearby Phuket.

The same management team that has developed this Krabi marina has 18 years of experience honed at its sister facility in Phuket’s Koh Kaew District, Phuket Boat Lagoon. Krabi Boat Lagoon offers six first-class covered berths, 90 standard berths and a 60 craft hardstand.

A number of professional firms provide onsite yacht maintenance and repairs. There is also a chandlery where most yachting supplies, equipment and clothing can be found. The marina’s developer also has plans to build a luxury residential complex at the 110 rai (44 acres) site containing one and two bedroom flats.

Sriya Yongsakul is the sales and marketing director at the new Krabi facility. She says the marina will complement an existing state-run one near Krabi Town as well as its stablemate on Phuket. She added that yachters would be able to use the three facilities to reach others on Phuket and also other boat service centres and tourist attractions on Thailand’s southern Andaman Sea coastline and its offshore islands.
