Krabi tourist guide

Krabi is blessed with outstanding natural beauty. No other province in Thailand boasts such a diverse landscape of pristine beaches, rugged karst cliffs, and a collection of island gems, while inland are rich mangroves, waterfalls and hot springs. Most guide books herald the Phi Phi Islands group as the most dazzling jewel in the province’s sightseeing crown; however, there is plenty more fantastic scenery in Krabi to enjoy.

The popular resort of Ao Nang serves as an excellent base for enjoying sights in the area, and has plenty of hotels and shops to go with its lively night scene. The isolated peninsula of Railay offers paradisiacal picture postcard scenery seen on the covers of Krabi brochures, while the nearby islands of Koh Hong and Koh Poda are perfect for daytrips. Inland are lush national parks Than Bokkharani and Khao Phanom Bencha, as well as the cave-based temple Wat Tham Seua near Krabi Town.

More on what to see in Krabi

Krabi is the ultimate tropical destination and caters to all types of traveller. Accommodation ranges from basic backpacker digs to plush five-star luxury pads overlooking the beach. It is still possible to find cheap rooms throughout the region, however, as guidebook listings may suggest, Railay Beach continues to move upscale at a rapid rate so there are less budget rooms available.

Suggested hotels near Phra Nang Beach, Ao Nang and Railay Beach

Although Koh Phi Phi Don (the main, inhabited island) caters to all budgets, the most opulent choices are located on the island’s more secluded beaches, away from the main pier and busy hub, Ton Sai. Unlike all other Krabi resorts, Phi Phi doesn’t experience the ‘low season’ reported by tourist guides. The islands are abuzz all year round, and particularly crowded during Christmas and New Year.

As all Krabi guides suggest, Ao Nang offers the perfect balance of nature, scenery and entertainment, making it the ideal destination for a family holiday. The main promenade is lined with shops, bars and restaurants, while a short drive away there are nature parks, snake shows and elephant trekking. It is also home to a great beach that rests under a handsome limestone karst range.

Offering a more laid-back pace and much more beach space, Koh Lanta (Yai) is the ultimate getaway. This large island boasts miles of footprint-free sand and a wide ocean view. A good choice of accommodation can be found in Krabi guides, with rooms to suit every budget. Krabi Town also has some nice hotels overlooking the river, and weekend visitors can look forward to a vibrant market in the town centre.

Krabi is much more relaxed than Phuket, and many travel guides consider it more beautiful, too. It boasts a well developed tourist infrastructure of first class hotels, excellent restaurants, reliable tour operators, lively night entertainment and endless activities.
